about this blog

Before I get started in writing about different topics, I want to give a formal introduction to my blog as well as describe some important factors pertaining to it.

As I mentioned in my “about” section, I hold a master’s degree in counseling and human development. I am currently in the process of pursuing licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor. Though I am not currently licensed and do not currently have to answer to any state board or regulations, I still hold myself accountable to my (hopefully) soon licensure state board. What does this mean? Well, I will vow to follow the Code of Ethics (American Counseling Association, 2014) set forth by my field and state board as well as act in such a way that reflects the values of my field. I vow to:

  1. enhance human development throughout the life span
  2. honor diversity and embrace a multicultural approach in support of the worth, dignity, potential, and uniqueness of people within their social and cultural contexts
  3. promote social justice
  4. safeguard the integrity of the counselor–client relationship
  5. practice in a competent and ethical manner

I also vow to adhere to:

  1. autonomy, or fostering the right to control the direction of one’s life
  2. nonmaleficence, or avoiding actions that cause harm
  3. beneficence, or working for the good of the individual and society by promoting mental health and well-being;
  4. justice, or treating individuals equitably and fostering fairness and equality;
  5. fidelity, or honoring commitments and keeping promises, including fulfilling one’s responsibilities of trust in professional relationships; and
  6. veracity, or dealing truthfully with individuals with whom counselors come into professional contact.

What does this mean for you? It means that I vow to:

-Keep all identifying information from my clients, or others I come into professional contact with, confidential. In addition, I will keep all identifying information for any person mentioned in my blog confidential

-Write blogs based on my own competency. If I am uneducated on a specific topic, I will either refrain from posting or make it clear in my post that I am not competent in that specific area

-Fully research any topic I choose to post about to become educated. With the exception of experience posts. If I am blogging about a specific issue that has to do with my experience, this may or may not be based on research. I vow to make it known in each post that it is or is not based on research

-Be honest, respectful, thoughtful, and ethical in my interactions with clients or those who I may interact with as a result of this blog

Thank you for reading and welcome to my blog! 🙂
